Intellect: Claim Scrubbing
Intellect has partnered with a vendor to “scrub” claims before they are billed. Scrubbing is basically reviewing data for errors based on industry standards; for example, a review of data to see if codes billed are valid. When charges do not pass the edits, they are notified at the time they are posting the charge.
A new [Scrub] button has been added to the Charges screen to facilitate claims scrubbing. This feature is a real-time accuracy check that can be used while entering charges. The scrubber checks:
• Validity of Codes
• Suspicious Units (Medically Unlikely Edits, or MUE)
• CCI Edits
• Age and Gender
• RVU Ordering
The [Scrub] button is located in the bottom right corner of the Charges screen, as shown below:
The client posts the diagnoses and charges as usual. Before committing the charges(s), they select [Scrub]. An XML file is then submitted to the vendor via sftp (secure file transfer protocol), and a file returned with any errors.
When no errors are found, the vendor returns a response ‘No errors found’
If the scrubber finds errors, a message is returned indicating what the error is. For example:
• Wrong age for procedure
• Wrong age for diagnosis
• Wrong gender for procedure
• Wrong gender for diagnosis
• Invalid Modifier
• Invalid Place of Service
Before using this feature, it needs to be set up as explained in the online documentation. See New Features in Beta Test --► Claims Scrubbing Feature. Once the claims scrubbing feature has been set up, it can be used on the Charges screen located at Charges --► Charges.
