PCM News

New PCM Features

Quite a few new features have been recently added to PCM. How many of them have you tried?

  • A new 'Lang' combo box was added on the Preventive Service/Alerts guideline setup screen. This option allows clinics to set up education documents according to patient's language preference.

  • A 'Disable Preventive Service Risk Initialization Popup' checkbox has been added on the Clinic Set up Screen. This option can turn off the pop-ups in patients' charts when the Preventive Service option is not disabled. This does not compromise meeting the Clinical Decision Support Rule measure.

  • A 'Source' combo box was added to the PQRI/NQF reporting module for Medicare and Medicaid qualifications.

  • The PQRI/NQF Reporting Module now has a 'Logic in PCM' button that shows users information on how the measure results are populated.

  • Hotkeys have been added to a lot of PCM screens. On several PCM screens users will notice an underlined letter on a button or Menu; the underlined letter means that if you pressed ALT+the underlined letter, you can make the button/menu work without using your mouse. This is especially useful for Dragon users.

  • The Meaningful Use Report now has a message pop up if the Preventive Services feature is disabled.

Meaningful Use:
PDF and Workshops

CMS has produced a .pdf titled "EHR Incentive Beginner's Guide". The link is also available from our website by logging-in, clicking on the [Meaningful Use Training Materials] button, selecting the Welcome page, and then selecting the link under the heading "CMS Links and PDFs".

Our Meaningful Use workshops have also resumed! Monday workshops are offered from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. PDT; click here to register. Thursday workshops are offered from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. PDT; click here to register. As in the past, recorded workshop sessions are also available. Reducing Claim Rejections
Using Intellect Edits

Because the 5010 requirements have changed, we've added several new edits to Intellect you can set up within the program. These include hard edits which do not allow you to continue until corrected, and soft edits which are warnings that allow you to continue without requiring changes.

Viewing ANSI 5010 277CA Files

Are you taking advantage of our 'Access Claim Report' option to review your rejected claims, fix them from the same screen, and rebill? This option, under Billing/TeleCom, was initially added in October 2011 for users of OptumInsight (formerly ENS/Ingenix) to view ANSI 5010 reports and 277CA files; however, all payers and clearinghouses may use it as long as the report comes in as a 277CA file.

Capturing Screen Images
in Intellect

Effective version, 9.12.27, you can now easily take screen shots of any Intellect screen. Having the ability to capture the information on your screen is useful for training new employees, remembering how to select a favorite report, or to report 'suspicious program behavior' to the PCS support staff. Holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the letter L will capture the image currently on the screen. A printer dialog box then pops up, allowing you to select a printer, to which the saved screen image will be sent, and then enter the number of copies to be printed.

The ability to capture the screen using the Print Screen button and paste it in a word or notepad document is still available. Pasting the screen shot in a document allows you to save the image on your workstation, to add typed notes regarding the information on the screen, type in step-by-step procedures to follow, and the ability to refer to it in the future.

New Option in
Online Documentation

A new main menu option of Peripherals and Equipment lists specifications and additional information for a dialogic board, the Dymo label printer, a magnetic stripe card reader, and scanners.

HIPAA 5010: What's Triggering
Denials and Rejections

By Carl Natale, ICD10 Watch, Posted on Tue, Jan 24, 2012 - 01:48 pm

We've been using HIPAA 5010 standards to transmit electronic medical claims for a few weeks. How's that working? While it's tempting to assume that no news is good news, you should watch out for any medical claim rejections and denials. According to Ken Bradley, vice president of strategic planning at Navicure, there are problems that are exposed now that healthcare payers are dealing with a full load of medical claims.

Medicare Fee-for-Service Editing
