ICD-9 to ICD-10 Transition

ocean_header_bg.gif

Per CMS, the effective date for the ICD-9 code transition to ICD-10 codes has been re-scheduled to October 1, 2014. CMS and other payers will not be able to process claims until after the compliance date, but providers should expect ICD-10 testing to take up to 19 months. PCS is ready for the transition, are you?

Clients

Please review the following list, and see where you stand in the ICD9-to-ICD10 transition:

1. Educate your providers and billing staff. Check with industry professional associations, industry groups, and your clearinghouse for available information, as well as consulting educational resources, and checklists.

2. Create a new Superbill that includes the new ICD-10 codes. Email it, or send it regular mail, to Prime Clinical, and we will send you a quote for authorization prior to loading the new Superbill into Intellect.

3. Upload an Excel spread sheet, or disk, of ICD-10 codes into Intellect.

- OR -

Manually start adding ICD-10 codes into Intellect under Utility/Diagnosis/Add:

<Diagnosis Code> enter the ICD-10 code or a speed code

<ICD9/ICD10 Code> enter the actual ICD10 code

<ICD9/ICD10> ‘ICD10’

Note: You may contact PCS Support for assistance. A trainer can walk you through uploading the codes from a spreadsheet or disk.

We are prepared! Testing is complete, and Onstaff Intellect software is ready for the transition to ICD10!

Here are a few additions and changes you’ll see as of the 13.03.01 release:

Utility/Set Up/Parameter Screen:

New <ICD10 Effective Date> field: The date entered in this field indicates when ICD-10 codes can begin to be used. Beginning on the date entered, an ICD-10 selection box can display at the <Diagnosis Code> field, depending on the set up of the <ICD10> field (see below).

Utility/Category Screen:

New <ICD10> field: The Y/N options for this field also affect the ICD-10 selection box display at the <Diagnosis Code> field. If the <ICD10 Effective Date> field (see above) is set to display an ICD-10 selection box, ‘Y’ allows it to display, but ‘N’ will not display the ICD-10 selection box when users post using an ICD-9 code.

Charge Screen:

ICD-10 codes have been downloaded from the CMS website. Depending on how the new <ICD10> and <ICD10 Effective Date> fields are set (see above), an ICD-10 selection box can display at the <Diagnosis Code> field, allowing users to either post using an ICD-9 code, or select an ICD-10 code which most closely matches the ICD-9 code previously used, and continue to post charges as usual.
