Loading Fonts and Forms to a Remote Printer

AT THE MAIN SERVER

Step 1 –Loading Fonts & Forms into a file on the hard drive.

Before starting you should know whether you have a Unix or Aix operating system.  The directions are assuming that the floppy drive on a Unix system is drive a.  You should confirm this for your system.  This will not be needed for Aix systems.

Put a disk in the floppy drive of your main server.

From any menu in On-Staff hold down the [Control] key and press the letter [E] one time.  This will take you to the External Options menu.

At the External Options menu select:  Load Fonts/Forms

            AT THE PROMPT:

‘Enter your print out destination or return for default’ press the [SPACE BAR] key to clear the printer name displayed on the screen then press the [Enter] key.

            AT THE PRINTER MENU:

‘Choose One Of The Printers Shown:’  Select    DISK

            AT THE PROMPT:

‘The File Name Where This Report is Save To:’  Type   YOURFILENAME   [Enter]

In these instructions, YOURFILENAME is the name that you assign to the file.  It should include today’s date, ie: FontsForms061101.  After entering your file name the system will return to the External Options menu.

Step 2 – Copying the file from the hard drive to the floppy diskette.

From the External Options menu select:   UNIX SHELL

                        ***FOR UNIX OPERATING SYSTEMS***

At the $ prompt type:     doscp   YOURFILENAME   a:   [ENTER]   ( a:   =   the drive name)

                        ***FOR AIX OPERATING SYSTEMS***

At the $ prompt type:   su   [ENTER]

At the password type:   scp   [ENTER]

At the # prompt type:   doswrite   YOURFILENAME                               (or)

            doswrite   YOURFILENAME   YOURFILENAME   [ENTER]

When you are done copying your file onto the disk hold down the [Control] key and press the letter [D] until you return to the External Options menu, select Exit and the system will return to the menu.

See page two to load Fonts and Forms to the remote printer.

AT REMOTE SITE

Step 3 – Loading the Fonts and Forms to the remote printer.

Send or take the diskette to the remote site.  Place the diskette in the floppy drive of the remote PC that the printer is directly connected to.  Verify that the floppy drive is drive   a   .  If it is not, replace    a      With the correct drive name when following these instructions.

Goto a DOS Prompt

At the DOS prompt type:   copy   a:YOURFILE NAME [Enter]

At the DOS prompt type:   copy   YOURFILENAME   /b   lpt1  [Enter]

Fonts/Forms are now loaded on your remote printer.  It is recommended that you put a note on the printer that the power should not be turned off since this causes the printer to loose the Fonts/Forms.  Also that Fonts and Forms must be loaded to that printer form the DOS prompt using the following command:

 copy   YOURFILENAME   /b   lpt1  [Enter].

KEEP THE DISKETTE AND A COPY OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN A SAFE PLACE, THEY MAY BE NEEDED LATER.
