9-Digit Zip Code Requirements
Effective October 1, 2007: Zip code requirements were implemented when billing for specific situations.
What do I need to do:
There are important details and exceptions you should know. Please review the links listed below to verify whether or not these requirements apply to your practice. If a payor or clearinghouse you submit to is not listed, this does not mean the 9-digit zip code requirement does not apply to them. This is only a partial list of the links we were able to locate.

Will my software accept the 9-digit zip codes:
Intellect supports a 9-digit zip code. Therefore, software updates will not be necessary. If the new requirement applies to your office, you may need to update your zip code table, and any records requiring the 9-digit zip codes. To update the zip code table, you can either:
• Manually add the 9-digit codes to the zip code table: To do this go to the screen which needs the 9 digit zip code and enter the 9 digit zip code for each record which requires it. For example: if you need to change the zip code for a provider go to Utility/Provider/Provider/Modify. Enter the provider code. Click on the Zip Code field; enter the new 9 digit zip Focus will go to the city field. Enter the correct city and state if the information displayed is incorrect.
• Have the file updated from a disk: Purchase a disk from the United States Postal Service and update the zip code file using the Utility/Misc/General Update feature.
• Whichever method you select to update your zip codes: You will need to manually correct any records for providers, facilities, insurance companies, etc which require the 9 digit zip code.
